Country Living

Life is much simpler in the central provinces of Panama.  Things are done differently. Traditional housewares and utensils are used in the preparation of most foods.  Here is an example of some of the common household items found in the interior of the country.

Master Bubble Tea

On my list of favorite places to eat you will find Master Bubble Tea among the top five.  The food is delicious and the Bubble Tea is to die for.  I usually order the fried squid.  It comes with some of the best french fries I have ever tasted. The food is always hot, fresh […]

Delicious Desserts

This scrumptious little tart can be purchased at Petit Paris in Marbella.  This was one of several delicious delights I tried on my visit to this quaint little restaurant/bakery.  I also tried a passion fruit cheesecake, which was out of this world.  If you have a sweet tooth, you need to drop in at Petit […]

Petit Paris

Today I had a nice lunch in Petit Paris in Marbella.  If you like bread, sweets and coffee, this is definitely a place you should visit.  There is a large variety of breads to choose from. There are many delicious delights to satisfy your sweet tooth, too.  What caught my attention was the long list […]

The Rich Indian Community of Panama

There is a very large Indian community here in Panama. This photo was taken in my neighborhood, Bella Vista, as my neighbors prepared for a feast.

Cafe Duran

I am a self confessed coffee addict.  I can’t live without the stuff.  One of the places I go to when I need a quick  coffee “fix” is Cafe Duran.  The coffee is good and there are many locations all over the city.

Excellent Greek Bakery

This incredible display of breads can be found at Athanasiou Bakery on Via Porras.  It is a bread lover’s dream come true.  The only problem you will face is trying to choose what bread to buy.  You will probably end up like me, leaving with my arms and stomach full of several different kinds.

Tamal de Olla

This delicious dish is called tamal de olla.  This unique casserole can be savored at El Trapiche restaurant on Via Argentina in the El Cangrejo neighborhood.  It is served up with a helping of white rice.  Incredible flavor!

Athanasiou: A Wonderful Greek Bakery/Coffee Shop

Athanasiou is a great Greek bakery and coffee shop in Panama City. They have a wide variety of pastries, snacks, sandwiches, breads, coffee, and  many other yummy things to eat.  There are so many things to choose from that it is really hard to make a decision.  Once you are inside, you are completely surrounded […]

Riba Smith is Quality

Riba Smith is Quality. This is my favorite supermarket’s slogan and it is the absolute truth.  I have never found an establishment that is so dedicated to quality as Riba Smith Supermarket.  They make their own bread, cold cuts, chocolate, ice cream, and cheese, just to mention a few.  Each and every item that they […]

Vegetarian Treasure

If you are a vegetarian or a vegan, the best place to eat in Panama is Loving Hut. The food is incredible, the prices are low and the service is cafeteria style so you are served immediately.  You may also order from the menu.  This is one of my favorite places to eat.

El Trapiche

If you want to eat “real” Panamanian food, El Trapiche is the place to go.  It is located on Via Argentina in El Cangrejo and has a varied menu of typical Panamanian dishes at an affordable price. Pictured here is a traditional soup called sancocho, which is served up with white rice.  Delicious!

Cool Lunch Option

This delicious salad is just one of the many options to choose from the menu at New York Bagel.  When things heat up in Panama, a salad is always a cool alternative to a hot, steamy lunch. So, if you are walking around El Cangrejo and see a huge concrete head of Albert Einstein, then […]

Las Bovedas

The word boveda means vault or dungeon in Spanish and when Casco Viejo was established, the location of Las Bóvedas was just that: a holding cell for prisoners and slaves. The restaurant bears no resemblance to a jail cell now with lovely indoor and outdoor seating on picturesque Plaza de Francia.

If you are in the Casco Antiguo you might want to make a pit stop at Cedros, a small tavern style restaurant that has a great atmosphere, excellent service, good pizzas, all at an inexpensive price.

Churreria Manolo

If you are looking for a great place to drink coffee and to satisfy your sweet tooth, you should visit Churreria Manolo. There are several locations here in the city to choose from.  My personal favorite is the one on Via Argentina.  Make sure to try the churros.(see photo)

Mi Ranchito

When visiting the Causeway make sure you stop off to eat at Mi Ranchito.  This open air restaurant is the perfect place to relax in the night air with an incredible view of the city lights sparkling over the bay. The food is scrumptious, even if the service is kind of slow.  It can get […]

Rino’s Ristorante

When you first walk into Rino’s, you may get the impression that your meal is going to cost you an arm and a leg.  Don’t let the lavish decor and the attentive service fool you.  The price is  affordable and the food is very good.  I usually start my meal off with the fried squid, […]

Athen’s Pizza

This delicious plate of Imam eggplant can only be experienced at Athen’s Pizza. It is baked with tomatoes, onions, oregano and topped with cheese.  It is served up with pan pita.  This succulent dish practically melts in your mouth.  Athen’s is an excellent place to eat, no matter what you decide to order.  It has a […]

When you go to Casco Antiguo you will most certainly pass by this beautiful building that houses Casablanca, a restaurant that has an incredible atmosphere and delicious food. You may eat inside in  air conditioned comfort or sit outside in the plaza in front.  Either way, you will not be disappointed.
