If you are like me, living in Panama and your insurance will not cover an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). Do not make the mistake of not shopping around. Panama has a vibrant free market economy and health care is definitely not the exception.
The health care provided by the government should cover working Panamanians, but there are not currently enough machines to cover the population. In addition, it might take months to get an appointment. If it is an emergency or you are not covered by social security, it is time to look at the private sector. The Riverside Inn is a lovely small hotel in Boquete. It sits right on the river as its name suggests and is surrounded by lovely lush mountains. The rooms are spacious and very tastefully decorated. There is a cozy living room with a fireplace and a small bar and TV room. Breakfast is included and served at The Rock, which is a lovely restaurant located next to the hotel. I absolutely love this quaint little hotel.
Hacienda Los Molinos is located in El Frances, Chiriqui. It is about 10 minutes outside the town of Boquete. Los Molinos is a gated community that has a small hotel. The hotel has lovely rooms and a great restaurant, Raices. There is a pool and a spectacular canyon view. Small villas are also available for those who are travelling with family and need more space. It is outside of Boquete and off the main highway, so a car is needed if you want to leave the area, I went with my family so we stayed in a two bedroom villa. The villas have a nice kitchen and is very roomy and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay here and plan on returning soon.
The Panama Canal Railways from Panama City. It will take you past the Panama Canal locks, through lush rain forests and Gatun Lake with Colon as your final destination. Also, The trip to Colon will take you about an hour.
Gatun Lake forms a major component of the Panama Canal. You can take a tour and immerse yourself in the nature, history and impressive engineering of the Panama Canal during this 45-minute boat tour. This major part of the canal is home to abundant tropical wildlife and is surrounded by a lush forest. I recently took one of these tours through Gamboa Rainforest Resort. I was fascinated by the beauty of my surroundings and the flora and fauna of the area. The cost of the trip is under $40 for adults.
We arrived after a 2 hour drive from Panama City. The hotel grounds are nice and the beach is pretty. We arrived right at check-in time so there was a line of about 5 people ahead of us. The line moved very slowly! We were in line for at least 30 or 40 minutes. Our own check-in process did not take long but apparently a large group had arrived and their rooms were not ready, so we had to wait until they were all sorted out. There were only 2 clerks checking people in so the whole thing just dragged on.
The room was really basic but it was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. It had a really pretty view of the ocean and of the entire pool area. Continue reading “Sheraton Bijao Beach Resort Review”
The inhabitants of Casco Viejo are as varied as the kaleidoscope of buildings that make up this enchanting sector of Panama City. There is an eclectic mix of cultures, religions, nationalities and ages which is part of the magic that surrounds this area. These are the faces of Casco Viejo.
I recently spotted this beauty as I toured the lovely streets of Casco Viejo. It was parked in front of the San Francisco de Assis church awaiting the bride and groom of a wedding that was in progress. Now, that is what I call driving in style
I recently had the opportunity to go up to the bell tower of the San Francisco de Assis church in Casco Viejo to take pictures. What an amazing view! I was able to look out over the city and see the contrast between the old and the new. What a wonderful experience!
Isla Verde is a boutique hotel in Boquete, Chiriqui which consists of cabins, cottages and guesthouses. This lovely hotel is surrounded by lovely zen like gardens filled with flowers and fruit trees. It is only a short walk from the main street. Although it is right in the center of town, it is quiet and serenely peaceful. Each cabin has either a small kitchenette or a fully operating kitchen, complete with dishes and cookware. The staff is friendly and helpful. A nice continental breakfast is included in the cost. I spent New Year’s Eve here with my family and my dog. We all had a wonderful time. Go to the link below and check out their website.
